LOS ANGELES – InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown announced Wednesday the appointment of Sven Wiedenhaupt to the role of general manager, who began his tenure at the esteemed property in June. As a seasoned hospitality professional, Wiedenhaupt brings over 40 years of experience to the hotel, according to a press release.
Prior to his new appointment, Wiedenhaupt served as the general manager of the Indian Wells Golf Resort, Troon. His experience expands upon both international and domestic roles, holding leadership positions at a variety of esteemed hospitality groups including Four Seasons, Jumeirah Hotels & Resorts, The Estate Yountville, and Marcus Hotels & Resorts.
Wiedenhaupt’s career began as a kitchen porter responsible for washing pots and pans at the Leather Bottle in Mattingley, Hampshire, before becoming a fry cook at the local train station in the town of Hook, Hampshire. From there, Wiedenhaupt attended L’Ecole Hôtelière De Lausanne, in Switzerland, where after a few years and many adventures he ultimately landed his first role as director of food and beverage at Four Seasons Hotel in New York City. In this role, he led the five-star hotel’s culinary team in menu development, saving initiatives, and the refresh and opening of three outlets, working with Joel Robuchon in establishing the iconic LAtelier De Joel Robuchon.
“It is very rewarding and an honor to join the elite team at InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown,” said Wiedenhaupt. “Working with the visionary ownership group, Hanjin International Corporation, in conjunction with InterContinental Hotels, I’ve quickly realized the dynamic potential of this magnificently-designed property. With our tremendous team of hospitality professionals, the hotel will continue to be a bright beacon of quality and innovative hospitality in Downtown Los Angeles.”
