IHG Hotels & Resorts Partners with EnviroSpark to Enhance EV Charging Solutions

March 12, 2024

ATLANTA, GA — IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG) announced an agreement with EnviroSpark, a leading provider of electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions, to facilitate the installation of electric vehicle chargers (EVCs) at all IHG-branded hotels across the United States and Canada. This partnership underscores IHG’s commitment to enhancing its portfolio with sustainable infrastructure while meeting the growing demand for EV charging facilities among travelers.

Under the agreement, IHG-branded hotels in North America will have the opportunity to collaborate with EnviroSpark to install EVCs based on their individual requirements. This initiative builds upon IHG’s existing global network of over 1,100 hotels equipped with EVCs and reinforces the company’s dedication to supporting environmentally friendly travel options.

The EVCs provided by EnviroSpark are specifically designed to cater to travelers in need of overnight charging solutions. IHG has also introduced an EV-charger search filter on its IHG One Rewards mobile app, along with a range of mapping features, to assist travelers in planning their journeys effectively.

As the global transition toward net-zero carbon emissions gains momentum, the adoption of electric vehicles is projected to increase significantly. Goldman Sachs Research forecasts that EVs will account for approximately half of new car sales worldwide by 2035.

Brian McGuinness, Senior Vice President of Global Guest Experience at IHG Hotels & Resorts, commented: “Expanding access to EV charging facilities is a natural progression for IHG as we continue to prioritize the needs of our guests. With renowned road-trip brands like Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express, ensuring convenience for travelers on the move is central to our mission. Through our collaboration with EnviroSpark, we are offering IHG owners additional options to install EVCs at their hotels, thus simplifying travel for an expanding segment of eco-conscious travelers.”

Aaron Luque, Founder and CEO of EnviroSpark, added: “We are delighted to partner with IHG Hotels & Resorts to extend the availability of EV chargers at their properties across North America. This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to sustainable practices and aligns with the rising demand for eco-friendly travel alternatives. Together, we aim to create a seamless and environmentally conscious experience for travelers, contributing to a greener future and advancing the widespread adoption of electric vehicles.”

In addition to facilitating the installation of EVCs, IHG is supporting hotel owners with an EV charging guide featuring best practices to encourage the implementation of EV chargers across its portfolio of more than 4,100 open hotels in the U.S. and Canada.

This collaboration between IHG and EnviroSpark is in line with IHG’s responsible business plan, Journey to Tomorrow, which encompasses a series of ambitious sustainability commitments aimed at driving positive change for people, communities, and the planet. Moreover, it exemplifies IHG’s dedication to working with a diverse range of suppliers through its supplier diversity program EPIC, fostering partnerships with companies that share IHG’s values.
