Massanutten Resort Breaks Ground on New Active Adult Development
November 20, 2025
MASSANUTTEN, VA — Massanutten Resort has announced in a press release the groundbreaking of its new 55+ active adult community, BluestonePeak at Massanutten Mountain, which is expected to welcome its first residents to the heart of Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley next year.
A celebratory event brought together the project’s development team, Massanutten Resort executive team members, and elected officials, along with a variety of other local representatives. A program of remarks included Steve Krohn, president and chief operating officer of The Resorts Companies; Joel Hensley, chair of the Rockingham County Board of Supervisors; Mark Wagner, general manager of Peak Construction; and Robert Cappellini, chief executive officer of Evergreene Homes.
“This groundbreaking brings BluestonePeak one step closer to a long-anticipated reality,” Krohn said. “Our goal with BluestonePeak is to create more than a neighborhood — we are passionate about building a lifestyle where residents can embrace the mountains, the seasons, and the full range of experiences that make life at Massanutten so special.”
Construction has begun on a new permanent sales center, set to open in spring 2026, giving prospective homebuyers a fully immersive introduction to BluestonePeak’s design, amenities, and mountain-inspired lifestyle. Model home construction is also underway, with the first set of homes slated for completion in early 2026.
Framed by the Blue Ridge Mountains and nestled within the 6,000-acre Massanutten Resort, BluestonePeak offers access to a full spectrum of amenities — from two golf courses, miles of scenic trails, and pickleball matches, to sunset concerts, wellness classes, and community events.
One of the defining features of BluestonePeak is its dedication to preserving the land. More than 40 percent of the property will remain HOA-managed greenspace, giving residents room to gather, explore, and enjoy the outdoors.
“Our team has been working hard to bring a unique vision to life, and it is incredibly rewarding to see the community finally starting to take shape,” said Tom Newkirk, project director of residential sales of BluestonePeak. “We believe BluestonePeak offers something very special and invite those who are seeking an active, adventure-rich lifestyle to visit us here, exploring what it means to Live Full Range.”
BluestonePeak is designed to prioritize walkability, greenspace, and long-term livability. The nearly 200-acre site features neighborhoods and homes inspired by the region’s folk Victorian, classical revival, and arts and crafts styles. BluestonePeak offers an active, four-season mountainside lifestyle with year-round access to nature, wellness, and recreation. In addition to a dedicated clubhouse featuring a variety of exclusive amenities, ownership at BluestonePeak will feature resort living with access to Massanutten Resort’s hiking and mountain biking trails, two 18-hole golf courses, skiing and snowboarding, spa, dining, retail, indoor/outdoor WaterPark, fitness facilities, and more. As the next chapter in Massanutten’s 50+ year story, BluestonePeak represents a significant investment in the resort’s continued evolution.
