Matthew McGuigan Appointed General Manager of Romer Waikiki at The Ambassador

Highgate has appointed Matthew McGuigan as General Manager of Romer Waikiki at The Ambassador, the company announced last week. In his new role, McGuigan will oversee all operations and management of the anticipated property, scheduled to open October 1, 2023.

McGuigan joins Romer Waikiki from the Ala Moana Hotel by Mantra in downtown Honolulu, where he served as Hotel Manager for the past five years. Prior, he served as Hotel Manager at the Roosevelt Hotel Seattle, Director of Rooms at The Hotel 1000 Seattle, and Director of Front Office at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel.

“With his proven track record as a leader in the hospitality industry, Matt McGuigan is the perfect person to lead this exciting new neighborhood hotel,” said Kelly Sanders, executive vice president of operations for Highgate. “Matt’s wealth of experience and passion for curating unforgettable experiences will be invaluable as we prepare to welcome guests to this vibrant new property in the heart of Waikiki.”

Formerly known as The Ambassador Hotel Waikiki, the eclectic and spirited hotel will reemerge with an array of room types, programming, lively dining and entertainment at Waikiki Swim & Social Club and easy access to the island’s incredible outdoor activities. A courtyard restaurant is set to open in 2024, according to a press release.
