The 6-P Hospitality Leadership System

By Daniel Zolinski | June 25, 2024

Most people think leadership is about having all the answers, but true leadership is about empowering others to find the answers themselves. It’s about creating a culture where every team member can thrive. In today’s article, I want to share with you a brief breakdown of the 6-P Leadership System. It may take 12 months, 3 years, or even 10 years to perfect, but I’m confident if you apply these principles, they’ll revolutionize your hospitality business.

Purpose

Show how your company’s mission aligns with their goals. Hire mission-driven and disciplined employees, give them projects they care about, conduct regular meetings to ensure like-mindedness, and sync the company mission to their purpose. When the team has a shared purpose, they will go above and beyond.

Planning

Precise planning is the foundation of focused execution. Before every project, scope out your core focus. Failure to plan is a sure plan to fail. A clear plan prevents poor performance.

Psychological Safety

Innovation thrives in a fearless culture. Fear is a normal part of our lives. Uncertainty about the future and how to reach desired outcomes can cause inaction and overthinking. On the flip side, we can use any amount of fear to drive incredible results. Create an environment where every employee has a voice and foster open discussion and risk-taking. When your team feels safe, they’ll bring their best ideas to the table.

Personal Responsibility

Ownership starts at the top, so when you take responsibility, so will your team. When you admit your mistakes and never play the victim, it’ll garner trust with your team, and they will be willing to do the same. Our brains are natural absorbents of information and action. As you do, so will they.

Precision

Precision is key in accuracy and thoroughness. When you demand it, the team will deliver it. How you do anything is how you do everything. Attention to detail will separate you from competitors, which in turn will also supply an immense amount of trust with not only your team, but with customers and guests.

Pacesetting

Your team will always match your pace. If you work slowly and lack clarity, they’ll copy you. You must:

  • Lead by example
  • Hire people smarter than you
  • Let no one outwork you

By embracing these 6-P’s of Leadership, you’ll create a culture of:

  • Ownership
  • Innovation
  • Elite Performance

You empower your team to reach their full potential.

I hope these actionable insights help you level up your leadership. Remember, your team reflects you.
