Stop Overcomplicating Things
By Daniel Zolinski | March 15, 2024
I recently was talking with a sales mentor of mine. We were talking about our latest failures, successes, adventures, and workouts. You know, all the main jibber jabber when catching up with someone you haven’t seen in a month. I decided to get a bit vulnerable to exude what I was truly feeling inside. Something that was distracting me from the focus I usually have. He thoroughly listened and responded with a few words: God removes people from your life because of things you didn’t see.” He didn’t say anything after that. He knew it was deep. After processing that statement for a minute, I realized how deep it was too.
This interaction with my mentor gave me inspiration for today’s article. I want to share three tricks on how to increase monthly revenue and eliminate distractions in the hospitality industry. Many things are out of our control in life, but many things ARE in our control. If you can find the fine balance of focusing on what’s in YOUR control rather than what’s outside of it, you will become a powerful hospitality leader.
Stop Overcomplicating Things
I’ll give a personal example. When I started my own business two years back, I had all the motivation and energy in the world. I was learning new things and setting the foundation of what I thought would be something beautiful. Until 3 months went by, and I hadn’t made a single penny. It wasn’t as straightforward as I thought it’d be. Self-doubt crept in and I was making up all these scenarios in my head, complicating things rather than sticking to the process. Have I found success since then? Absolutely. All you need to do is focus on a singular business model and work extremely hard at it for a long enough time, and you will get to where you want to be. No industry is oversaturated when you’re the best in it.
You Need to Work Extremely Hard to Know What Smart Work Is.
You know Steve Jobs, right? I think he was a pretty successful businessman. You’re probably reading this article on one of the devices he invented. This is his quote, “You need to work extremely hard to know what smart work is.” I completely agree. That’s why it’s always best to do more, think less. The greater the input the greater the output. Most simply aren’t working hard enough, but when you increase your volume, everything else takes care of itself.
Gain Unlimited Energy
I’ve had a lot of people ask me, “Dan, how do you have so much energy?” “Why are you up so late and up so early?” I’ve also had people tell me silly things like, “You need to take a break.” “You’re going to wear yourself out.” “Just hang out tonight and stop working.”
Preserving your energy as much as possible is one of the most important things you can do. You want it saved for the most important things of the day. If you’re spending all your time with people who are asking you silly questions like these, it will drain you of your energy. It is why I’ve changed who I surround myself with that has given me unlimited energy. No more silly questions. Only motivated and driven individuals who want to win and are winning in life.
I hope these three quick tips will help adjust your mindset and keep your focus narrow in your hospitality pursuits.
