R.D. Olson Construction Completes AC Hotel By Marriott In Beverly Hills

IRVINE, CA—R.D. Olson Construction, an award-winning general contracting firm in California, today announced the completion of AC Hotel by Marriott in Beverly Hills, an 11-story, European-inspired luxury hotel. A two-phase project, R.D. Olson Construction completed phase one last year, which encompassed the adaptive reuse of a 1950s office building into a 97,000-square-foot hotel featuring a rooftop lounge, fitness center, meeting spaces and more. Phase two, which recently completed, included the addition of administrative and community areas and additional suites, bringing the total to 176 guest rooms. Located in the notorious Miracle Mile, the project is the first AC-branded hotel in the Los Angeles region.

One and two-bedroom double, king and queen guest rooms feature wide screen TVs, large windows with city views, adjustable reading lamps and USB charging ports. Amenities include the AC Lounge, which offers tapas-inspired small bites and signature cocktails, as well as a rooftop deck featuring a hydrotherapy spa, bar and lounge with views of the Griffith Observatory and Hollywood sign. The AC Hotel by Marriott Beverly Hills also provides guests with access to ACE, a robot butler that can deliver market items and room essentials to their front door.

“R.D. Olson Construction’s breadth of hospitality experience enabled us to seamlessly complete phase two, navigating construction of a fully-occupied hotel with solutions for noise control, parking and material delivery to ensure that the guest experience was not disrupted,” said Bill Wilhelm, president, R.D. Olson Construction. “During construction we also were challenged with the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, which our team handled diligently by enacting health and safety measures recommended by the CDC and OSHA to ensure the safety of all.”

Historical components of the 1950s office structure were preserved and restored as part of the adaptive reuse, including original windows, stone and the building’s exterior façade. To deliver on the AC brand’s modern hotel experience with a focus on exceptional design, the project team incorporated mid-century art deco architecture and design elements such as a curated collection of artwork that nods to the Los Angeles lifestyle and culture. This contemporary design is carried through from the guest rooms to the community spaces.

A block away from Rodeo Drive and in proximity to key attractions including The Grove, Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) and Beverly Center, the AC Hotel by Marriott is designed to attract travelers and locals who want to immerse themselves into the energy of the city.

R.D. Olson Construction worked with architecture and design firm AXIS/GFA on the project, which marks the firm’s third AC-branded hotel. Previous projects include the AC Hotel Wailea, a four-story estate hotel located on the southside of Maui County, and AC Hotel El Segundo, a six-story property catering to millennial travelers and locals.
