MMI Hotel Group Legacy Lives On
JACKSON, MI–As Mississippi-based MMI Hotel Group celebrates 65 years of business, it looks back on its legacy and looks forward to what lies ahead. On May 19, 1956, MMI opened the doors to its first property – a Holiday Inn in Meridian, Mississippi. For Mike Sturdivant, his uncle J.C. Wilbourne, and his college roommate Earle Jones, this was the first step down what would prove to be a long, successful road. MMI was built on the principles of bringing people together and topnotch service, above all else. Together, Sturdivant, Wilbourne, and Jones blazed a trail in the hospitality industry, right from their home base in the Hospitality State.
From the very beginning, MMI has been a leader in the industry. At the time, Holiday Inn was a young chain, but Mike Sturdivant recognized the great potential. Over 65 years, MMI and its managed properties have been honored with several industry awards, including franchise partners, industry-specific associations, and the larger business community.
While the industry has changed a great deal since 1956, MMI role as a leader and innovator in the hotel and hospitality industry has remained the same. “We still believe in old fashioned Southern Hospitality, and people remain our priority,” says Micajah Sturdivant, MMI’s President, and CEO. “Service reigns supreme – we serve our guests, our team, and our communities.
