Finding Its ‘Comfort’ Zone

The Seating Shoppe Carves Its Niche With Custom Solutions

By Dennis Nessler | October 4, 2021

Sacrificing guest comfort in any way as a result of having product of a lesser quality is a scenario that most hotel operators don’t taking ‘sitting down.’ That’s where The Seating Shoppe comes in offering customized solutions that not only differentiate the company from its competition, but ultimately help hoteliers enhance guest satisfaction.

The Seating Shoppe is a family-owned, Harrison, NJ-based supplier of seating solutions to the hospitality and food service industries. The company offers a selection of chairs, barstools, booths and tables in a variety of woods, metals, acrylics and aluminum, including a number of frame finishes and upholsteries.

Just as importantly, The Seating Shoppe continues to emphasize its unique capacity to provide exactly what its customers need. “We have the ability to customize about 100 chairs, which is really unusual,” said vp, business development, Jeffrey Berkowitz, who further described the company as providing “boutique customer service.”

Abe Rosenberg, CEO of The Seating Shoppe, outlined the company’s values and how these values are meaningful to hoteliers and designers by creating the Five C’s of Seating: Craftmanship; Comfort; Construction; Cost; and Customization.

Craftmanship refers to the visual appearance of quality and fine details. When it comes to craftmanship, the company utilizes the finest bars of welded aluminum and rich wood-look framing. Careful consideration is taken in the wood grain finishing and the elegant details of the stitching that attaches each upholstery to its embellished wooded or classically sculpted aluminum frame, according to the company. The construction of the chair has the most significant effect on how durable the chair is. The Seating Shoppe looks to ensure a lasting hold utilizing extra support bars, full welds, and manufacturing expertise, in addition to stacking capabilities.

Comfort, meanwhile, stresses that comfortable seats are expected to have a plush feel while remaining spacious and warm, according to the company. Cost refers to the cost comparison between chairs of equal quality as well as the difference in quality. Finally, Customization expertise is a pre-requisite to bring the customer’s vision to life with more than 900 fabrics and vinyls and 30 frame finishes.

To create its lineup of high-quality seating, a combination of innovation, robotics, and best-in-class processes are utilized, according to the company. And to demonstrate confidence in the quality of its products, The Seating Shoppe offers a 12-year structural warranty on all of its chair frames.

Boasting a management team with more than 50 years in the hospitality and commercial seating line, Berkowitz noted that each hotel project has significant oversight, including a dedicated project manager.

“Everything is overviewed by everybody in the company so you have a lot of people who are multi-tasking. Nothing falls through the cracks,” said Berkowitz, who described the company as having an “excellence in operations.”

The Seating Shoppe is also armed with a full lineup of designers, as well as its own design studio known as TSS Design Studio. Each product is custom made to customer specifications and the company has a customer-centered development specialist that works directly with designers.

Apparently, its diverse product lineup has caught the attention of seasoned hospitality industry designers as well. Celia Barrett, Principal, Barrett Design Studio, touted the company’s quality craftmanship and reasonable pricing, not to mention its customer service.

“As a designer I want the ability to customize the elements of our design at a comfortable price for our client’s budget. Plain and simple. I am confident using The Seating Shoppe for our chairs and barstools. I have found that what we specify with them is truly well built and more than meets our demands for comfort and aesthetics. And they are always available for follow-up needs. I’ve been a designer for many years and the customer service I receive from The Seating Shoppe is the best of the best,” said Barrett.

Berkowitz further highlighted that service culture as well as the importance of communication to the company’s success.

“Everyone has a real interest in that customer service discipline and communication. The customer has to know every step along the way where we are in the process, and they do. At The Seating Shoppe we offer our customers products of unparalleled value with the service they deserve.”  he concluded.
