Marina del Rey—Award-winning architecture and interior design firm Indidesign is excited to announce the completion of the newly renovated Hotel MdR Marina del Rey - a DoubleTree by Hilton. The Los Angeles-based firm was tapped to refresh the building’s exterior, lobby, bar, restaurant, and outdoor living space following Hilton’s acquisition of Courtyard by Marriott, the venue’s former occupant. The John Hardy Group analyzed the property prior to its purchase and project managed its renovation. The property offers a new destination for locals and tourists alike to meet, play, socialize, and work, amid extensive redevelopment plans in this SoCal community.

Indidesign’s concept for the latest DoubleTree by Hilton introduces a unique interpretation of West Coast lifestyle to the increasingly popular Marina del Rey area. “Working with Vito Lotta, Senior Director of Design for Hilton Worldwide, was so much fun. He allowed us to stay connected to the basic DNA of the brand and yet craft an identity that truly has the flare of an independent boutique hotel….with 240 rooms!” says Beatrice Girelli, co-founder and design director of Indidesign. “The spaces are inspired by urban living, yet they are fully soaked into the SoCal lifestyle, which is forward thinking and relaxed at the same time.”

The experience begins at the porte cochere entrance. Guests seamlessly flow through the entrance into the lobby lounge. An open floor plan inspired by urban loft living blurs the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces. Evolving from the outdated business centers, Hotel MdR Marina del Rey - a DoubleTree by Hilton features a tech lounge that connects the lobby and bar areas where power outlets are seamlessly integrated into the furnishings throughout the entire ground floor. The indoor/outdoor restaurant beckons guests to one of the property’s most stunning features, an outdoor living room and pool outfitted with tree lights, area rugs, cozy seating alcoves, firepits and layered lighting.

Grey cement-like flooring with deep yellow and dark navy accent hues set a relaxed yet upbeat vibe within the hotel’s public spaces. Metal murals and sculptural resin reception desks are playfully mixed with reclaimed wood. Many of the surface treatments employed were custom conceived by Indidesign and infuse the space with playful personality. The design balances the West Coast lifestyle, where technology is deeply embedded in the culture, with the laid-back, carefree beach lifestyle. This unique and forward design approach, supported by the Hilton brand, ensures consistency in the guest experience across properties, yet pays tribute to Marina del Rey’s identity.

This property’s opening comes on the heels of a flurry of activity as residential, commercial, entertainment, and tech industries flock to the neighborhood. The Marina del Rey Harbor has been approved for an extensive clean-up and the LA County Board of Supervisors are in the process of approving a development plans that include new residential properties, 200,000 square feet of retail space, revamped public spaces, and over 900 new hotel rooms. The goal is to create a more tourist-friendly area, reduce traffic and open up new routes for public transportation, and ultimately draws more people to the marina. The newly renovated Hotel MdR Marina del Rey - a DoubleTree by Hilton will compliment these efforts and provide an exciting new neighborhood offering for both residents and guests.
