Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront announced Matt Evans as its new assistant director of sales. Evans previously served as one of the hotel’s senior sales managers and has been with Hyatt since September 2012. With more than ten years of experience in the hotel industry, Evans will continue to secure major market convention groups in the Mid-Atlantic and support junior team members. He will also assist with implementation of new sales strategies while training for a director of sales position with the company.
“Matt has been a valuable asset to our team and his superior leadership skills make him a perfect fit for this position,” said Gino Caliendo, general manager for Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront. “He has a drive for going above and beyond for our clients and strengthening Hyatt’s and Jacksonville’s reputation as an ideal destination for conventions and large groups.”
Prior to joining Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront, Evans spent eight years with Gaylord Opryland in Nashville, Tenn., starting in the rooms division and moving into sales, where he held positions ranging from individual travel sales to meeting connections before becoming national sales manager. Evans attended Mercyhurst University in New York, where he majored in hotel, restaurant and institutional management with a focus in hotels.
“Since joining the Hyatt team, I’ve been impressed not only by its strong hotel and convention offerings but also by what the entire region as a whole boasts,” said Evans. “I am excited to step into this position and take on new roles that allow me to serve the market and be more involved in high-level strategy planning and mentoring our next generation of sales associates.”
