Commercial furnishings veteran Bill Bongaerts announces the opening of a new company, Shelter Outdoor, purveyor of modern outdoor structures for the commercial and residential markets. Bongaerts, well known as president of commercial furnishings company Beaufurn, created the new company to expand into the luxury outdoor furnishing market.
“There’s nothing like it in the North American market,” says Bongaerts of the company’s eponymous product. “The modern lines, the European design and custom options create an unmatched outdoor environment for dining, lounging or entertaining.”
The company’s product line includes high-tech Shelters, Cabanas and Umbrellas.
These high-tech, made-to-order outdoor living spaces are sleek and smart. Belgian in design and rectangular in shape, the minimal, modern frame allows the landscape and other adjacent structures to shine. Every Shelter is made to the customer’s specifications, so standard sizes don’t apply. Whether the situation calls for a freestanding or wall-mounted Shelter, no space is too large to accommodate.
Contradictory to its simple appearance, the powder-coated aluminum structure houses a multitude of high-tech conveniences increase comfort and extend the usage period. Remote-controlled, motorized aluminum louvered ceiling panels open for increased air flow and close for protection from sun and rain. When closed, the louvered roof blades provide a flat, weatherproof ceiling and an integrated gutter system channels water away.
Motorized side and back roller panels, adjusted by remote control, are integrated into the structure for a seamless look. Panels come in canvas or screen material; PVC windows are optional. Shelter is available in standard colors of white or anthracite grey.
• A 2,000 watt, frame-mounted heater keeps users comfortable in low temperatures.
• Rain and wind sensors bump up the structure to the smart category. When moisture or increased wind speed is detected, the Shelter automatically closes the louvered ceiling for protection from the weather and rolls up the side panels to protect them from wind damage.
• LED lighting can be seamlessly integrated into the louvered panels, creating a space that can be used night and day. Lights come in white or RGB (red, green, blue).
With the same sleek Belgian styling as Shelter but a smaller footprint, Cabanas are sure to make a splash poolside. The square and rectangular frames feature a retractable, water resistant canvas roof and tracks for side curtains to protect users from sun, wind and rain. The durable aluminum frame is powder coated for resistance to sun, moisture and salt.
Cabanas come in three standard sizes:
• 10 feet by 10 feet
• 10 feet by 13 feet
• 13 feet by 13 feet
Shelter Outdoor offers two umbrella styles: the P6 (cantilevered multi-pole) and the P50 (single pole). P6 umbrellas feature the patented One Move™ System, a gas-spring pole mechanism that raises or lowers the umbrella in a single movement.
The award-winning, cantilevered P6 leaves more table space for food and beverages, and offers diners an uninterrupted view. It performs well in inclement weather with the addition of rain gutters, which securely shuttle water away from diners. Heaters and LED lighting are optional.
The P6’s multi-pole design holds up to four umbrellas that can cover 285 square feet, enough to shade 12 diners. The pole can be grounded to the floor with an anchor or secured with a steel base with added weights and a stainless steel cover.
The P50 umbrella is a single pole umbrella with a beautiful, modern design. Light and easy to use, the P50 is made from anodized aluminum and comes with two base options, a floor plate that can be anchored to the ground, or an aluminum base, which can be filled with sand for added stability.
