AAHOA Vice Chairman Pratik Patel – he will ascend to Chairman next month-- owns 12 Hotels and has five under development through his San Antonio based company REM Hospitality (www.remhospitality.com). As a smart hotel owner he is expanding his business as the hotel industry soars to new heights during this upcycle, but also knows he is more financially focused than design oriented.
That’s common amongst owners so he understands the benefits of attending HI Connect Design® and it’s why the organization is telling its members to attend.
“Visually, HI Connect Design® is about being able to see what is out there. The layout and the atmosphere at the conference is very efficient, but it also opens the eyes to owners of the aspects they are not as focused on,” said Patel. “From a design point of view our owners usually deal with middle men and this gives them the ability to see what the big picture is out there and see the things designers may see that we don’t. We are not trained to see things in the same way.”
He said he and his members have a deep desire to see what is out there in terms of the best design and most efficient processes that give hotels owners insights into the designs that make guests happy while simultaneously finding solutions that have the most efficient return on investment.
“This is also a great checks and balances system so we can see as design customers what else is going on in the industry and from design professionals,” Patel added.
Pratik Patel will be joined at AAHOA by many of its hotel owners and its entire executive board including current Chairman Mehul Patel; Treasurer Jay "Jimmy" Patel; Secretary Bharat "Bruce" Patel, CHO; and President Fred Schwartz.
They will all have the chance to mix and mingle with professionals representing top hotel companies such as Marriott International and Best Western, which are presenting their own fully constructed vignettes as well as companies like Vantage Hospitality, Red Roof, Red Lion and Cobblestone who will all have their CEOs present as well as other leading companies such as Starwood, Hilton and Wyndham.
According to Pratik Patel the relationship with HI Connect Design® is important because it helps the AAHOA board “open the eyes of its members to the benefit of attending other events. It makes a humongous difference and they will be very excited to what is out there.”
“I can see pictures I take at HI Connect Design® and I can now say I want his kind of bath and give general direction to make that happen,” said Patel, noting AAHOA members are building eight of 10 new hotels right now.
As for his goal of the educational session set for HI Connect Design® he said he wants everyone to understand the importance of meeting with decision makers, especially those on Capitol Hill in Washington.
“We, AAHOA members, are building unity in the industry to come together and to influence change In Washington D.C. and industry wide. This is important for our vendor partners too because if something negative affects us, it will affect them. The more discretionary income we have the more we can spend on our hotels, which appeals to the vendors participating in HI Connect Design®,” said Patel.
In closing, Patel says it is all about everyone in the industry working together to achieve the common goal of success.
“We are all small businesses and we don’t fight just for lodging, we fight for small business altogether. Industry unification is our goal,” said Patel.
