AAHOA Vice Chairman Pratik Patel, who becomes the association’s chairman next month at the AAHOA Annual Convention and Trade Show in Philadelphia, has been named to the board of directors of two prestigious industry groups.
He has been elected first vice president for 2014 of the Texas Hotel & Lodging Association’s Board of Directors and will ascend to the position of Chairman of the Board for TH&LA in 2015.
Patel has been active with the TH&LA and has served on its board since 2008.
He has also been named to the 2014 Board of Directors of the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA). This 60-member board consists of C-level, or “chief” level, executives who represent the full scope of the lodging industry, including brands, owners, REIT’s, management companies, independents, and state associations.
A second generation hotelier, Patel is a principal in REM Hospitality, which owns and manages a portfolio of more than a dozen hotels and other real estate properties. The San Antonio-based company specializes in branded hotels for upscale, limited-service, and extended-stay markets.
“My special passion is our industry’s political advocacy,” explains Patel. “The various segments of hospitality -- owners, brands, suppliers, others -- have to work together more closely so we can speak more effectively with one powerful voice to the minds that matter about the issues that matter to our profitability and our survival.”
Prior to becoming a hotelier in 2004, Pratik was in management and sales with Accenture -- the world’s largest consulting firm -- working with major energy companies such as Shell, Entergy, ENI Power, and Suez Energy to apply the technology of tomorrow to solve the problems of today.
A native of Nevada, Pratik studied at Baylor University -- earning an undergraduate degree in business administration and marketing, as well as an MBA in finance and a Master of Science degree in information systems. He lives in San Antonio with his wife, Akta, and their daughters -- Jayna and Misha.
AAHOA has grown to more than 12,500 members who together own more than 20,000 hotels which have a combined market value of almost $130 billion and which represent more than 40% of all U.S. hotels. The association’s members play a significant role in the American economy -- employing almost 600,000 people and spending more than $31 billion annually on operating costs plus another $900 million annually on capital improvements. AAHOA is based in Atlanta.
