Those looking for a sneak-peak into the potential future of Marriott International need not look any further than HI Connect Design® 2014. The venerable hotel company is showcasing the work of its interior design team at HI Connect® by dedicating an entire vignette to displaying how the company is focused on extending the hotel experience beyond the lobby.

And the savvy professionals attending HI Connect® will be among the first in the world to experience this incredible glimpse into the minds of Marriott’s internal design team and how these trendsetters see the future of hospitality.

For Marriott International this is an opportunity to demonstrate to the industry’s top decision makers how the company is taking a holistic approach to showcase individual zones that are engaging, interactive, smart, and clean. With a beautifully appointed free-standing bed solution, visitors will experience custom design details as part of a quality suite environment. Each zone has a sensory point, emphasizing the latest technology available in the industry. In collaboration with the finest hospitality suppliers and manufacturer the Marriott design team demonstrates how to bring products and creative thinking to life.

At HI Connect®, the vignette will be visited by the industry’s top owners, developers and hoteliers.

“Marriott International is extremely excited to participate in HI Connect ®. We know this show is going on its third year and we’re really all looking forward to it,” says Tim Sefchok, Senior Director Interior Design, Full Service Brands of Americas with Marriott International.

The massively scaled HI Connect ® is coming April 2-4, 2014 to the Gaylord Opryland Resort in Nashville, TN, and it will be the most revolutionary and original event of the year (www.hiconnectdesign.com).

HI Connect ® provides a never-ending sense of discovery, stimulation and engagement where attendees step into myriad vignettes highlighting the vision of the industry’s top designers and leading suppliers. An amazing educational slate provides CHA and CLO recertification credits too and partnerships with Marriott, AAHOA and other leading hotel companies will make this event the number one location to build your business in 2014.

As for Marriott’s guest room, Sefchok says it’s quite different from anything the company has done in the past because there is no conventional layout. The vignette is designed with zones featuring different design elements not normally seen in a full service guest room.

“I think it’s important to know that what we’re showcasing in our vignette is some of the current thinking for our brands, like an open closet and more emphasis the shower. Most of our brands are converting their inventory to shower only, which is so important to our future guest. All of our brands have recently updated their bedding. And looking at the technology portion, we’re going to be showcasing a lot of electrical outlets, LED, and USB ports, looking at the most current suppliers for safes and minibars, and also televisions. So, a little bit of everything is going to be showcased.

The vignette is more like a touch and feel experience. We’re pretty excited about the flow, as you can go in one end and kind of circle around all the different zones, and then exit. So, I think ours is going to be very unique,” explains Sefchok.

Teri Urovsky, Vice President Interior Design, Architecture and Construction says, “It’s going to be fabulous. We are so excited to be a part of this show HI Connect Design this year and to also highlight some of the work that we’re doing with our in-house team in design.

“Our team has put together a fabulous vignette highlighting some of the new look and feel of the brand, very intriguing aspects that maybe are aspirational to a hotel that you would hope to maybe see in suite type of execution, maybe not a typical guest room. And, we’re really trying to highlight some of the new and different things in bathroom design.

“And in guest room design, different types of flooring that we might do. Integration of closets into the actual room itself, so it feels more like one space. Just some unique approaches in a more modern and contemporary aesthetic. That’s very clean, technology integrated in a very seamless way throughout the entire room. So, just lots of things that we feel based on our research appeal to this new guest.”

That new guest she’s referring to are of course members of the millennial generation who are traveling more than ever and will soon be the number one generation staying in hotels.

Laurie Woliung, Direct Design Director at Marriott says “participating in HI Connect Design® is a great way to show not just what Marriott can do with design but how their suppliers can be terrific partners too”.

“I am just thrilled to be a part of this design team and the creative team that we’ve assembled for this event. What’s exciting about the vignette is being able to produce it with our partnered vendors and they really have been great partners up to date. We are doing an amazing job in collaboration, which is what our design team is all about,” said Woliung.

We partner with our customers, our franchisees, by providing the best design we can and making sure that whatever hotel that we are involved in from a design standpoint, that it is the most creatively designed hotel in that market. That sensibility reflects back on the mission of Marriott, that we are striving to be the number one hospitality company in the world,” Woliung added.

Morriah Mryszuk,, Senior Interior Designer Architecture and Construction says “this is an excellent and worthwhile experience participating in HI Connect Design®.”

“It’s been great. It’s been a new experience, for sure doing a vignette for a trade show. We’re all excited about the design and we have a lot to showcase right now. It’s a very exciting time for our brands as a whole and our in house design team has an opportunity to get out there and show the design, so it’s been exhilarating,” says Mryszuk.
