Christopher Akoury, a hospitality industry veteran whose career spans more than 16 years, has been appointed general manager of the 221-unit Embassy Suites Piscataway-Somerset, located on the border of the metro New York suburban bedroom communities of Piscataway and Somerset, New Jersey. Chris will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of this 221-unit, all suites hotel situated in north-central New Jersey which is accessible to the state’s major highways and in close proximity to Garden State Exhibition Center and Rutgers University.

“Chris’ familiarity and knowledge of the suburban New Jersey area, along with his strong leadership and managerial skills, will play an integral role in continuing to ensure the hotel’s development and success in this key market,” said Ted Ratcliff, senior vice president, operations, eastern North America, Hilton Worldwide. “His experience in food and beverage management coupled with his solid operational and sales/marketing expertise makes for a winning combination that will serve the hotel well.”

Chris spent the last eight years in various managerial positions at the 274-unit Embassy Suites hotel in Parsippany. As director of hotel operations, he also acted as the interim general manager last summer overseeing the day-to-day hotel operations and sales efforts. In addition, he also implemented new programs, to help increase revenue, and restructured the front desk and F&B management teams to drive the guest experience and increase F&B profit through departmental synergies. From 2006 to 2010, based at the Embassy Suites Parsippany, Chris served as the cluster director of food and beverage advising Hilton’s Corporate owned/managed hotels in New Jersey ensuring that F&B departments were in full compliance with Corporate guidelines and procedures.

During his tenure with Interstate Hotels Corporation from 1997 to 2006, Chris held a number of important F&B managerial positions at various Hilton and Marriott properties in New Jersey and Connecticut. In his position as director of F&B at the Hilton Newark Penn Station Hotel, Chris was instrumental in training new F&B management teams thus increasing S.A.L.T. scores by 10 percent in a one year period. As director of outlets for the Hilton Parsippany Hotel from 1999 to 2005, Chris was responsible for managing a $3M, multi-outlet operation in which he aggressively trained and managed a new team in aspects of F&B outlets. Chris began his hospitality career at the Trumbull Marriott Hotel in Trumbull, Connecticut, where he served as outlets manager and was responsible for the operations of a $2.3M, multi-outlet facility.

Chris currently resides in New Jersey and is active in his local community and church group. His interests are football and NASCAR racing.
