Effeti Cucine Uniche, known worldwide for its high-end Tuscan Florentine kitchen systems, is celebrating its 40-year anniversary with a look back at its history and decades-long partnership with Giancarlo Vegni. Across the Atlantic, Effeti USA, the brand’s newest subsidiary, is honoring its parent company’s milestone with a focus on Vegni’s product contributions, including two kitchen collections, which now boast new electronically controlled drawers and doors.
According to Effeti USA co-founder Shelly McClure, “The groundwork for the strong Effeti brand of today was first laid by Armido Ristori in 1963, when the business specialized in multi-category furnishings and was known as “Falegnameria Toscana.” In ’73, the company began to specialize in mass-produced fitted kitchens. This turning point in the company’s history is largely thanks to a meeting with Vegni. Effeti grew from a carpenters’ workshop into a veritable industry.”
Effeti thoroughly researches user habits and preferences in the kitchen before approaching any new design project. This is evident in Vegni’s iconic L’Evoluzione and Sinuousa kitchen systems. The collections’ drawers and doors are now controlled electronically, allowing for even greater ease of use. L’Evoluzione and Sinuousa are based on a more livable kitchen that is free from constraining or imposing structures. L’Evoluzione allows for increased functionality and a more natural flow from kitchen into living area. Sinuosa is a continuance of the free-form concept found in L’Evoluzione, boasting “sinuous” components based on smooth 45 degree curves. Fluid in both form and function, Sinuousa’s contours offer a streamlined aesthetic and more spatial flexibility. Its modules can be installed with other pieces from the collection or can be added to L’Evoluzione. With multiple configurations and the ability to create one or more curves, Vegni’s two designs allow for customizable solutions to meet individual needs in the kitchen. Available Effeti branded drawer organizers keep everything in its place. Finally, allowing for even more personalization in the kitchen, the lines are available in 11 kinds of wood, and a wide variety of glossy laminates and lacquers. Custom colors and finishes are available upon request.
Vegni is credited with Effeti’s 1970s era transformation, helping to turn the Florence-based carpenters’ workshop into a booming, high volume operation with representation across the globe. Since then, Effeti has nurtured its designer relationships, working with Vegni as well as well-known Italian architects Gabriele and Oscar Buratti and Monica Armani. The founding design philosophy of researching and exploring new routes, accepting new design challenges and combining technological expertise with passion and impeccable handmade production has become Effeti’s signature. Today, Effeti’s Florence-based factory continues to blend state-of-the-art technologies with traditional craftsmanship.
