MICROS Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: MCRS), a leading provider of information technology solutions for the hospitality and retail industries, is pleased to announced that it shipped its one millionth MICROS Point-of-Sale terminal on December 31, 2012.

In 1977, MICROS introduced the 200/300/400 Series terminals based on the 8080 microprocessor and since that time, has consistently introduced innovative hardware platforms that have transformed the hospitality industry. The procession of state of the art hardware include the 451 MHM that connected the restaurant and the PBX for automatic outlet charge posting in 1981, the MICROS 4000 User Workstation Series in 1986 based on the IBM personal computer platform, the MICROS 2000 Series Touchscreen terminal in 1991, the hospitality industry’s first intelligent, wireless, hand-held touchscreen terminal in 1992, and the MICROS PC Workstations Series, its first PC-based terminal capable of executing DOS and Windows 95 in 1995.

In 2003, MICROS introduced its most successful terminal series beginning with the Workstation 4, the industry’s first Windows CE .NET based touchscreen terminal that provided high reliability, low total cost of ownership, and stand-alone resiliency. The MICROS Workstation Series which is still sold today also includes the MICROS Client Application Loader to manage software installation and upgrades. The MICROS Workstation Series accounts for over half of the total terminals shipped by MICROS.

“We are extremely proud to hit this tremendous milestone in MICROS history,” stated Peter A. Altabef, MICROS President and CEO. “MICROS terminals are known for
reliability and longevity, making it a smart investment for our customers. MICROS is excited about new hardware platforms that are in the final stages of development and remains highly committed to the ongoing development of innovation software and hardware solutions that transform the hospitality industry.”
