The American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (EI) has signed a Global Academic Partner (GAP) agreement with the Technical University of Loja (UTPL) to offer EI’s hospitality management courses as part of its university curriculum.

The Technical University of Loja was founded by the Marist Ecuadorian Association (AME) in 1971. UTPL is an autonomous institution with social and non-profit organization that provides education, conducts research with scientific and administrative freedom, participates in national development plans, and executes, acknowledges and revalidates academic degrees and professional qualifications.

The UTPL is a pioneer of distance education in Ecuador and Latin America, enabling higher education to reach more than 24,000 students nationwide and internationally with undergraduate and graduate degrees in special programs through its University Centers.

The Technical University of Loja has facilities in 61 locations in Ecuador, as well as four overseas locations in Rome, Madrid, New York, and Bolivia. The UTPL also owns Howard Johnson hotels in Loja and Quito.

According to Jaime Mesia, EI’s managing director for Latin America, “The goal of the UTPL is to grow its hospitality program with EI products through our Global Academic Partnership. They will offer EI’s courses both in the classroom and online through distance learning.” The university offers a bachelor’s degree in hospitality and tourism administration.

For more information about EI’s international hospitality education and training opportunities, please visit www.ahlei.org or call 1.407.999.8100.
