The St. Regis San Francisco is pleased to reveal a new design for its lobby, which has been celebrated as one of the city’s most glamorous and visually-captivating social destinations: an elegant enclave held in high-regard among international travelers, residents and the local community.  Theresa Fatino was engaged to refresh the original design crafted by the distinguished Yabu Pushelberg.  Art intersects with design to create an intimate sense of the city within the palatial hotel, setting the tone for unparalleled luxury and bespoke service at the best address in San Francisco.

“The St. Regis San Francisco has been the place for our global guests and residents to meet and mingle since the hotel opened in 2005,” said Toni Knorr, general manager, The St. Regis San Francisco.  “We wanted to maintain this exceptional energy, but revitalize the lobby to reflect the sophisticated elegance of St. Regis and the modern sensibility of San Francisco.  Theresa Fatino came to mind immediately.”

The new design of the 4,660-square-foot lobby draws inspiration from the hotel’s neighboring cultural institutions, such as the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and The Palace of Fine Arts, as well as landmarks like the Golden Gate Bridge.  Interior design elements include new custom-designed chairs, sofas, rugs, art installations and lighting fixtures selected for their stylized clean lines and geometry.  Hues of grey, silver, smoke blue, champagne, bronze, and black lacquer are meant to conjure the iconic fog that often veils San Francisco.  The resulting space reflects an elegant minimalism with undertones of contemporary glamour.

“San Francisco is a city like none other in the world; it strikes a beautiful balance between its rich history and its vibrant, youthful culture,” said Theresa Fatino, interior designer for The St. Regis San Francisco.  “Having lived here myself, I was thrilled to design the intimate spaces in the St. Regis where people want to interact, introspect or be inspired by such an enchanting destination.”

Fatino’s design aims to complement the original interior architecture conceptualized by Yabu Pushelberg.  Key focal elements, including the striking 16-foot fireplace, the zebrawood bar with glass pendant lighting and the renowned contemporary art collection, remain.  Andrew Morrow’s prominent “Love” and “War” murals pay homage, with a modern twist, to the original King Cole mural commissioned by St. Regis founder John Jacob Astor IV for The St. Regis New York.  The St. Regis Lobby Bar is operated by Hiro Sone and Lissa Doumani, co-owners of the Michelin-starred Ame restaurant that adjoins the lobby, as well as the acclaimed Terra restaurant in Napa Valley.  The bar features a classic drink menu with the signature St. Regis Bloody Mary as well as an extensive sake and wine list.  The St. Regis Lobby Bar is open from 12 noon to midnight Sunday through Thursday, and from 12 noon to 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

The lobby refresh marks the first in a series of renovations and improvements that The St. Regis San Francisco has planned for 2013 and 2014.

The St. Regis San Francisco is located at 125 Third Street. Telephone: 415.284.4000. For more information, please visit:  www.stregis.com/sanfrancisco.
