For many Americans the last week has been the most trying on record. And for those of us here right in the middle of the proverbial storm in the northeastern United States, the aftermath of the literal storm is incredibly overwhelming. Though Hurricane Sandy has decimated many physical places, the one thing that’s proved impenetrable is the human spirit.
Though we lost power at our home office all last week and some of our dedicated staff have yet to get power restored and have suffered damage to their homes, what happened to us at Hotel Interactive® is nothing compared to what happened to our Long Island brethren.
This past week proved no matter what separates us when times are good, we’re all Americans in time of crisis. We’re witnessing firsthand the unyielding desire of the fortunate to allay the heartache and pain of those that lost so much to the storm. People throughout the region are willing to pitch in to help in ways we haven’t seen since the dark days after 9/11, and they’re doing it regardless of personal and political differences, and they’re all looking to help those in need.
It’s been incredible watching the whole panoply of the human experience, but there is still more to do. That’s why today is so important. Kick started last week with a $2 million donation to relief efforts the Walt Disney Company, Disney along with their subsidiary ABC Television Group have named today, November 5, the “Day of Giving.” And we think this is the perfect opportunity for our industry to give too.
Already many companies and individuals are doing their part too to help ebb the suffering caused by the worst natural disaster to ever strike the United States. Wal-Mart and PepsiCo are sending truckloads of supplies to storm struck areas in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut while spontaneous acts of giving are exploding throughout the region. On the Upper East Side, for example, a couple of boxes were put out asking for supplies. It’s turned into a deluge of giving as everyone donated trucks worth of food and supplies.
At Hotel Interactive®, Inc. we’re helping too and want to give those in our extended hospitality family the opportunity to put their financial resources to a place where they can do the most good. Helping community is a founding philosophy of Hotel Interactive® and an integral part in everything we do. For example, at all nine of events which include BITAC® and HI Connect® Design, we have a charitable component helping those in need within the communities we visit. From cash donations to making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the hungry or building bicycles for underprivileged kids, it’s all about making a difference in any way we can.

So we’re taking our Hotel Interactive® Charities initiative and applying resources to help those within our own community get up and running so they can return to some semblance of normalcy.
