First unveiled on Ocean Drive in 1937, Winter Haven Hotel, an Urgo Hotels property, makes a fresh debut to the Magic City on September 28 as a member of Marriott International’s celebrated Autograph Collection. The fully-restored interiors were conceptualized by Edge of Architecture and focused on historical conservation maintaining the Art Deco era in which it was built and its original infrastructure as created by acclaimed architect Albert Anis.
The nautically-inspired details encapsulate an ode to the ocean liners of the Art Deco era with a fusion of modern touches. The lobby is covered in terrazzo flooring that leads to a grand cruise ship-inspired staircase with chrome-finished railings that wrap around the second level. Elements like the marble-topped wood and beveled glass check-in desk have been preserved while the lobby transcends guests into a new “decosphere” with bold updated accents of snake skin-covered high-back chairs, velvet-quilted sectional seating encompassed by rich hues of greens, gold and organic earth tones.
Also on the ground level, is the Hotel’s extended-stay “resident,” Il Bolognese - an Italian-style restaurant that also has a location on South Beach’s celebrated Lincoln Road. Items include pizzas, pastas and fired-grilled dishes.
The new upgrades make plasma televisions, international cable lineup and Wi-Fi standard. The property’s 70 guest rooms display wall-to-wall updates with a creative work space, full length window treatments and fully renovated bathrooms. Further, the beveled mirror theme carries over from the lobby with an oversized suspended oval mirror and two built-in mirror-faced end tables that flank the bed frame. Fine juxtaposition of the modern-deco approach can be found in the wood-meets-crocodile wrapped headboard.
Guests looking to take refuge from the energetic Ocean Drive hotel front can head up to the 1,600-square-foot rooftop terrace, which is outfitted in dark retain seating and inescapable panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean.
