Destination Hotels & Resorts announces the appointment of Shawn Gracey as General Manager of Hotel Derek, the newest addition to the collection’s portfolio of distinctive properties.
With a knack for elevating service excellence, and known for his talent in launching and positioning distinctive hotels, Gracey’s appointment marks a new era for Hotel Derek. With comprehensive improvements of the property currently in motion, including $6,000,000 in renovations and new design concepts touching on the hotel’s public spaces, rooms and meeting space – a refreshing note properly befitting Houston’s premiere independent hotel.
Located in the prestigious Galleria district of Houston, the 314-room Hotel Derek offers a stylish and sleek urban retreat, with an intriguing destination bar & restaurant. Gracey returns to Houston with Destination Hotels & Resorts, after overseeing a two-year renovation of the collection’s Carolina Inn, a historic property in Chapel Hill, NC. Previously, Gracey successfully led the portfolio’s last Houston property, downtown’s Hotel ICON in 2010, developing an deep affection for Houston, making his return a particularly welcome one.
Prior to his positions with Destination Hotels & Resorts, Gracey served as General Manager of the Shorebreak Hotel, a Joie de Vivre Hospitality property overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Huntington Beach, CA; General Manager for the Graciela Burbank Hotel (now Hotel Amarano) the only luxury boutique hotel in Burbank, CA; and as General Manager of the Four-Diamond Le Merigot, a JW Marriott Hotel & Spa in Santa Monica, CA. Gracey holds a BS in Hotel & Restaurant Management from the University of Missouri – Columbia and participated in The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company’s corporate management training program.
