Rosemont, Ill.-based First Hospitality Group, Inc. (FHG) announced today that renovations continue to move forward according to plan at the Loyalty Building in Milwaukee, Wis., transforming the historical landmark and former office building into the new 128-room Hilton Garden Inn Milwaukee Downtown hotel. First Hospitality Group, Inc. President and COO Robert Habeeb made the announcement.

Some of the ongoing updates include: an eight-week chemical cleaning process of the building’s granite and limestone exterior and restoration of the building’s original 1886 floor-to-ceiling windows with new glass, new sashes and new sills. Interior construction also continues to progress from the top level down with framing, drywall, wallpaper, paint and more—with the first floor demolition being 95 percent complete and framing planned to begin the first week of August. Architects and construction crews are also focused on protecting the architectural integrity of the iconic building by preserving the light well that was part of S.S. Beman’s original and innovative architectural design.

“We are pleased that construction is progressing smoothly and according to plan,” said Habeeb. “Our objective continues to be that the Loyalty Building remain an important piece of the city’s historic fabric for generations to come. We look forward to revealing the final product to the Milwaukee community during the hotel’s grand opening this fall.”

The transformation of the Loyalty Building, one of the city’s architectural gems and the original headquarters of Northwestern Mutual Life circa 1886, began in late 2011. A Milwaukee and Wisconsin landmark, as well as being featured on the National Register of Historic Places, the redevelopment of the property will create a positive impact on the local economy and job creation, and increase downtown foot traffic. The building features a magnificent four-story atrium, original granite and limestone floors and façades, and one of the best-preserved and most celebrated 19th century commercial interiors in the state.

First Hospitality Group, Inc. will own and operate the property and the hotel is expected to create 75 jobs.
