INNCOM in Honeywell of a Deal
The company got itself purposely acquired and they’re looking forward to delivering even better products and services because of it.

When Honeywell International acquired INNCOM last June it gave the privately held company something it had been longing for; better access to the world. Sure INNCOM has its software-based energy management solutions and in-room controls for lodging, healthcare and educational institutions around the globe, but this deal gives the company more resources than they ever could have imagined.
For them it’s like winning the Triple Crown. They’ll get better distribution, better ability to service clients and many more dollars to research new technologies and applications for current ones.
“We found a company that valued what INNCOM had done to this point and could take it to the next step,” said John Tavares, SVP – Marketing and Sales with INNCOM. “Honeywell came to visit and they looked at what we had accomplished in technology and out customer list that includes every major hotel owner operator globally. And they said ‘gee we have a gem’.”
Tavares said that being part of a global corporation will give INNCOM the ability to leverage their footprint not only for distribution, support and research but to also put in place the capacity to serve hotel owners in places that may have been more difficult for a smaller company.
“This was a strategic fit for them because we both offer a product and solutions portfolio that is energy efficiency related. It’s a great strategic fit right there,” said Tom Woodruff, Integration Leader - Building Control Systems at Honeywell. “INNOCM is leader in in room energy management and in room integration so you put two market leaders together and we have great synergies.”
Woodruff said the combined companies can now offer integrated building automation for an entire facility through a one source provider for integrated solutions. He also feels Honeywell as a whole will be able to apply INNCOM technology to spur new products and grow the business in other sectors.
Now INNCOM will have easier access into adjacent markets have features like hotels, Tavares said, like college dorms, healthcare facilities such as hospitals and assisted living facilities, military housing and residential units like condominiums. Now more than ever INNCOM clients will be able to contract a much more comprehensive solution from a single entity including comfort management, energy management, fire alarm and life safety and security solutions.
Tavares said he has been extremely delighted that Honeywell is also getting added on opportunities it never expected too. Honeywell will now be able to interface with other building systems with a single source for room technology and also build in life safety, security, and fire technologies.
“I thought this was going to be a one way street, but we are proud but they are finding our technologies so useful. Their engineering managers are working closely with us and we are finding out just how much of INNCOM’s technology can spill into other areas of Honeywell. Our deep mesh networks might have applications in other areas of Honeywell,” said Tavares.
But this deal is also about taking good care of customers. We see this merger with Honeywell as a terrific enhancer of our ability to support clients and reach them more easily where before we were limited by resource constraints. We look at this as we can do much more than we ever could do in the past,” said Tavares.
INNCOM's lodging customers include leading global brands ranging from mid-scale hotels to five-star luxury properties, including Hilton, Sheraton, Hyatt, St. Regis, Four Seasons, Radisson, Kimpton, among many others. INNCOM had 2011 sales of $24 million.
INNCOM is being integrated into Honeywell's Environmental & Combustion Controls business, a part of Honeywell Automation and Control Solutions, and will join the businesses' other Honeywell commercial controls brands.
