Samoset Resort, one of New England’s premier resorts, has partnered with Sleep Inc., a forty-year old mattress company with factories throughout the U.S., to utilize a revolutionary new recycling method invented by Sleep Inc. This one-of-a-kind technology was created for and is only used by Sleep Inc. to ensure that old mattresses are 97% recycled (as opposed to a few select parts being reused and the rest becoming trash). The Samoset is the first hotel to take advantage of this unique opportunity to avoid having its old mattresses wind up in landfills.
"Our response to Sleep Inc.’s offer to remove and completely recycle our old mattresses was a hearty yes!" said Connie Russell, general manager of Samoset. "The resort is thrilled to be a part of this cutting-edge technology and we definitely sleep better at night knowing that we’ve kept our old mattresses out of landfills."
The new recycling process, which has been dubbed "Dream Green Recycling" by the company, will completely dismantle and recycle the components of old mattresses for reuse in other industries. Every single part of the mattress that can be legitimately recycled (not reused) will be including the steel, the wood and the foam. Only 3% of unusable parts will be discarded as trash.
"An estimated 3 to 4 million mattresses wind up in landfills each year," said Sleep Inc. representative Mark Savel. "That is why we developed our own technology to use exclusively for our clients. Our main objective is to work in tandem with hotel chains who buy our mattresses to provide a green initiative at no cost to the chain. Our motto is ‘out of sight, PEACE of mind’ when it comes to recycling mattresses."
The Samoset Resort, which is undergoing a major renovation in anticipation for the 2011 summer season, will be debuting new Sleep Inc. mattresses this upcoming summer, along with a new restaurant, brand-new spa and three luxury waterfront cottages. The initiative to recycle their old mattresses is part of an ongoing effort by the resort to be as "green" as possible and thus minimiz e their footprint on the environment.
Sleep Inc. will be exhibiting their new technology to the industry at the 2011 HD Expo Conference in Las Vegas May 18-20 (booth 4966). For more information about Sleep Inc. XX 800-370-8700
