The Greenspun Corporation today announced that Howard Lefkowitz, who has served as president of VEGAS.com since 2001, has resigned, effective Aug. 10.
In announcing his departure, Bruce Deifik, president of The Greenspun Corporation, said, “Howard has done a monumental job during his time with VEGAS.com. He took what was a small, content-driven website and created a hospitality platform that is unrivaled in the industry. We will miss his leadership and vision.”
James B. Gibson, senior vice president with The Greenspun Corporation, the former three-term Mayor of Henderson, and an experienced business attorney, will assume the position of interim president of VEGAS.com. Gibson is a native Nevadan, born in Las Vegas and a resident of Henderson for nearly 55 years. During his tenure as mayor, Gibson served on numerous boards and commissions, including the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority Board of Directors, the Nevada Development Authority Board of Directors, the Las Vegas Events Board of Directors and the Regional Transportation Commission.
“We are extremely fortunate to have, in Jim Gibson, someone who not only is respected throughout Southern Nevada and the country, but also someone who has a deep understanding of the hospitality and entertainment industries that fuel our local economy,” said Brian Greenspun, chairman of The Greenspun Corporation. “We will deeply miss Howard, but we are in very good hands with Jim while we conduct a search for a CEO.”
When Lefkowitz assumed the leadership of VEGAS.com in 2001, the company had 26 employees and operated under an advertising-based model. Lefkowitz transformed the company into a diversified business of more than 400 professionals. VEGAS.com is the world’s largest city travel website, while its sister site, LasVegas.com, is the world’s second-largest. Both are the leading sellers of show tickets and hotel rooms for many of Southern Nevada’s largest resorts.
In addition, the company operates box offices for hotels including Wynn, Las Vegas Hilton, Rio, Paris, Bally’s and many others, and operates private-labeled concierge locations at more than 70 locations. The company has a 24-7-365 contact center providing services to retail customers and private-labeled solutions for partners; and a tour division providing land tours of area attractions. VEGAS.com’s Cyllenius division provides private-labeled technological solutions to the hospitality industry both in Nevada and across the country.
Gary O’Malley, who has served as a senior vice president of The Greenspun Corporation since 2004, will act as interim Chief Operating Office of VEGAS.com. O’Malley co-founded Cable Plus Holding Company in 1989 and served as its senior executive. Prior to joining Greenspun, he was principal in a business advisory and consulting practice that specializes in mergers, acquisitions, business valuation and debt restructuring. He serves as a Director at Telesphere Networks, Inc., and has been a director of Sparkplug, Inc., since 2006. He either sits on the board of or has an advisory position with major investments of The Greenspun Corporation, including Tribune Company, SkyMall Inc. and Greenspun Broadcasting Group.
“Jim Gibson’s knowledge of Southern Nevada and relationships in the community, teamed with Gary O’Malley’s operational understanding of technology and business, will provide a seamless experience for our customers and partners,” said Deifik. “In addition, we have a team of more than 400 people who operate VEGAS.com on a day-to-day basis. They helped build this business into what it is today, and I know they will continue to do an amazing job as we conduct the search for a new leader.”
