Following its $70 million renovation and remodeling effort that propelled The New Yorker Hotel (http://www.NewYorkerHotel.com) into the forefront of midtown hotels catering to business travelers, meetings and conferences as well as a variety of vacationers, The New Yorker Hotel Management Company has named Sylvia Lima as the new general manager, a move designed to take the hotel to a higher level of service that will match the new facilities.

Mrs. Lima is a veteran travel and hospitality industry executive with more than 25 years of experience and becomes the first female to hold the position of general manager at The New Yorker Hotel.  Mrs. Lima brings a new high-energy profile to the position and intends to lead the staff of more than 500 employees in providing a superior level of quality service that meets the needs of both business and leisure guests.

"Since stepping into the position of general manager, I have begun a revitalization of the staff - offering a new energy and excitement for taking the hotel to the next level," notes Mrs.  Lima, adding: "We will continue to offer great value and exceptional service, but with a renewed zest.  I have new directions for advertising and marketing as well as other areas, but my ultimate goal is to make our guests happy that they chose The New Yorker Hotel."

Prior to her current position of general manager, which took effect on July 1, 2009, Mrs. Lima served as controller and, more recently, as chief financial officer during her 14 years with The New Yorker Hotel.

Before joining the hotel team in 1995, Mrs. Lima worked in various industry arenas providing her with a broad spectrum of business experience, including nine years at the publishing company News World Communications, Inc., which represents various national magazines and newspapers, including The Washington Times.

She has also served as controller in various industry-related organizations, including three years at the wholesale company ILHWA as well as several years with Go Transportation, Inc., a tour and travel company.

Additionally, Mrs. Lima worked for three years as sales manager at the German-based company SAEIL where she established a dynamic sales team and management division.

Rounding out her professional experience, Mrs. Lima has worked in various capacities of payroll management, human resources and accounting.

Mrs. Lima is a member of the Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP).  She was born in Germany, has lived and traveled throughout numerous countries around the world and has been an active supporter and participant in the community service field throughout Germany, England, Ireland and Asia.  Mrs. Lima currently resides in Clifton, NJ.
