Santa Fe’s 400th Anniversary Commemoration is getting a much-needed financial boost from local hotels through “Heads in Beds,” an innovative sponsorship program.
Hotels participating in the program implement a voluntary $1 per room, per night surcharge, which is then donated to the Santa Fe 400th Anniversary to support the many events planned over the 16-month commemoration. As one of the select partners, hotels then may post a live link, photo and paragraph describing their property on the Santa Fe 400th Anniversary web site, www.santafe400th.com. Partner hotels will also benefit from an aggressive marketing, advertising and PR campaign set to launch mid-summer 2009.
“This is a great opportunity for hotels to display their civic pride and showcase their property in front of online visitors who are actively seeking information on what to do and where to stay in Santa Fe,” said Sponsorship Director Dan Miller. “A dollar per room, per night, is a relatively small amount, and the visibility the hotels gain as part of our marketing and media campaign makes it a great partnership.”
The “Heads in Beds” program is the brainchild of hotelier and Santa Fe 400th Anniversary Board member, Paul Margetson, who was looking for a way to contribute to the 400th in the rough economy. Margetson, the General Manager and Partner with the Picuris Pueblo, of the Hotel Santa Fe said they have already received bookings from their listing on the 400th website. Margetson considers the program a “win-win” for hotels in both the short and long-term. “As stakeholders in the future of Santa Fe, we recognize that a well-financed 400th Anniversary Commemoration will generate worldwide attention and tourism that will benefit us all,” he said.
Some participants in the program include: The Hotel Santa Fe, Hilton Santa Fe, Residence Inn by Marriott and Rancho de San Juan. In order to ensure high visibility and traffic, this sponsorship opportunity will be limited to 15 hotels. The listing will be posted on www.santafe400th.com through at least December 31, 2010.
“We’re thrilled that community businesses are rallying to support the 400th Anniversary events,” said Libby Dover, Executive Director of the Santa Fe 400th Anniversary. “The revenue generated by ‘Heads in Beds’ will help us create a world-class commemoration that honors Santa Fe’s remarkable history and cultural heritage.”
