Xanterra Parks & Resorts Announces Completion of Sale to the Anschutz Company

The sale of national park and resort concessioner Xanterra Parks & Resorts to the Anschutz Company was completed on Sept. 25, 2008.

Xanterra Parks & Resorts owns and operates concessions – including lodges, restaurants, stores, tours and activities – in Yellowstone, Death Valley, Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Zion, Crater Lake, Petrified Forest and Rocky Mountain National Parks as well as Mount Rushmore National Memorial and Ohio State Parks. The company also operates the Silverado Resort in Napa Valley, Calif., and owns and operates the Grand Canyon Railway based in Williams, Ariz.

Xanterra has long been a hospitality-industry leader in environmental stewardship, and its programs and accomplishments have resulted in numerous prestigious awards.  Last month the company received the National Park Service’s 2008 Environmental Achievement Award for exceptional achievement in sustainable energy practices in Death Valley National Park. The award recognizes Xanterra’s completion of one of the largest solar photovoltaic (PV) energy systems in the United States.

Xanterra employs 7,500 people, including approximately 100 employees at its suburban Denver headquarters in Greenwood Village, Colo. Operations span 10 states and include more than 5,000 guest rooms, 55 retail stores and 68 restaurants as well as marinas, golf courses and campsites.
