DALLAS—-Amalgamated Bank, the nation’s leading bank for change-making individuals and institutions, and Prism Hotels & Resorts, an award-winning, full service hotel management, investment, and advisory services company, were recognized at the Hyatt Hotel Corporation’s annual Americas Owners Conference with the award for the Best Full-Service Conversion of 2017 for their work in the conversion of the Hyatt Regency Los Angeles International Airport.

The Best Conversion award recognizes the successful reconfiguring and transforming an existing property and converting it to a Hyatt-branded hotel. Amalgamated Bank, as trustee of the LongView ULTRA Construction Loan Fund, which became the owner of the hotel, and Prism, the hotel’s management company, executed a multi-million-dollar transformation of the Hyatt Regency Los Angeles International Airport, which opened under the Hyatt flag in 2017. The hotel is the largest Hyatt Regency franchise in North America.

“It was important for us to commit top-tier resources to not only improving the hotel property itself, but also the high level of service we would provide to guests under this new Hyatt Regency brand,” said Jim Lingberg, Senior Vice President and Chief Trust Officer at Amalgamated Bank. “The ability to work closely with the great people of UNITE HERE Local 11, the Los Angeles/Orange Counties Building and Construction Trades Council, and the city of Los Angeles was essential during this important time of transition. We are pleased to be recognized on a national level for our approach to this renovation, both to the property itself, and for the great union members who are part of the team.”

“The strong collaboration between Prism and Amalgamated Bank allowed us to bring life back to the hospitality offerings at LAX and deliver what is now an unmatched guest experience in a beautiful and fully updated hotel,” said Steve Van, President and CEO of Prism Hotels & Resorts. “It was critical for us to create something that would stand out above all other properties in the area, and we elevated the profile of this hotel without ever closing our doors or disrupting the time our guests were on-site—something we consider an amazing feat that speaks to our attention to detail and consistency in providing exemplary service.”

As part of the upgrade effort, Prism and Amalgamated Bank also committed to enhancing the experience for its hotel team members. Through a collaboration with UNITE HERE Local 11 and the city of Los Angeles, the staff had the opportunity to participate in on-site training from Los Angeles Hospitality Training Academy, made possible through a grant from the city.

Hyatt Regency Los Angeles International Airport is located less than one block from the airport, pushing the boundaries of innovation and design with vibrant mid-century modern furnishings in each guestroom. Each guestroom has been thoughtfully designed for ease of working, relaxing and staying connected to who, and what, is most important to guests at any time. As the closest hotel to the Los Angeles International Airport, guests are treated to views of the airport’s busy runways and iconic Light Towers, in rooms featuring quadruple-pane windows to eliminate air traffic and airport noise.

The hotel offers more than 50,000 square feet of meeting space, including a 14,000-square-foot ballroom, one of the largest in the market, as well as the only outdoor event lawns in the area, accommodating up to 750 guests. Additionally, a newly built state-of-the-art conference center features more than 10,000 square feet of meeting space, where people can meet, connect and get inspired.

Hyatt recognized 10 of the company’s top owners and developers at the conference for owners throughout the Americas, with award categories honoring strategic partners, developers of the year, best projects and best new hotel.
