Shelborne Wyndham Grand South Beach, the iconic Miami resort slated to open summer 2014 following a $280 million renovation, is pleased to announce Michael Choiniere as its new Director of Sales and Marketing. A veteran of the hospitality industry, Choiniere has more than 30 years of experience as an international hotelier.

“This is an incredibly exciting time for the team behind Shelborne as we prepare for the hotel’s reemergence this summer as South Beach’s premiere luxury lifestyle resort,” said Choiniere. “I am thrilled to be a part of this exhilarating project, a true career highlight for me, and I look forward to overseeing the reopening of this historic property, which once completed, will restore a touch of art deco glamour to the ever-popular destination of South Beach.”

The completely renovated 200-room Shelborne will officially open its doors this summer in the heart of the South Beach Art Deco District as the Shelborne Wyndham Grand South Beach. Property renovation highlights include guestrooms and meeting spaces designed by Richard Mishaan and public spaces inclusive of the hotel’s commercial spaces and spa designed by Meg Sharpe, all food and beverage provided by the on-site Morimoto South Beach – award-winning Chef Masaharu Morimoto’s Miami flagship, a 2,400-square-foot full service beauty and wellness spa aptly named Blue Harmony Shelborne Wyndham Grand. The hotel’s reinvention additionally includes 15,000-square-feet of expanded event areas that include several meeting rooms, an executive boardroom, breakout rooms, a grand ballroom and extensive indoor and outdoor flexible space.

Previously, Choiniere has held senior hospitality sales and marketing positions across the U.S. and off shore, including Florida, Michigan, Arizona, The Bahamas and Bermuda. Choiniere comes fresh off of five years spent in The Bahamas as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for The Abaco Beach Resort at Boat Harbour. In this role, he was responsible for overseeing the rebranding and repositioning of the classic Bahamian resort. Prior to his time with The Abaco Beach Resort, Choiniere acted as Director of Sales and Marketing for a multitude of high-end, tropical and destination resorts including The Fairmont Hamilton Princess and The Fairmont Southampton (both Bermuda), The TradeWinds Islands Resort (St. Pete Beach, FL) and Westin Innisbrook Resort (Palm Harbor, FL).

In addition to his vast managerial expertise, Choiniere has also undergone numerous industry training and certification programs, among which include the Certificate of Strategic Marketing from Cornell University, Certificate of Specialization, Sales and Marketing Management from the Educational Institute, American Hotel and Motel association, and HSMAI’s Certified Hotel Sales Professional.
