Highly successful entrepreneur and retired NBA professional Jamal Mashburn is expanding his entrepreneurial interests yet again. Mashburn Enterprises LLC in partnership with the investment firm Dema Holdings of Miami Beach, FL, announces today it has recently acquired an undisclosed stake in the privately held FairBridge Hotels International (FHI), a hospitality services firm based in Spokane, Washington.
This foray into the hospitality industry is a new venture for Mashburn Enterprises. Mashburn currently has ownership and vested interests in numerous restaurant franchises (38 Outback Steakhouse restaurants, 32 Papa John’s pizza restaurants, and three Dunkin Donuts stores), car dealerships (owner of Kentucky’s Toyota on Nicholasville and Lexus Store of Lexington), real estate, and the thoroughbred horse racing industry.
“We’re excited for the opportunity to move into the hospitality industry by joining forces with a growing company such as FairBridge, which provides quality hospitality services domestically and internationally,” said Jamal Mashburn, CEO of Mashburn Enterprises LLC. “Together we plan to focus our collaborative efforts on the development and execution of a mobile strategy, which will provide travelers with compelling offers from our properties across a variety of platforms—thus servicing them wherever they are.”
Fairbridge offers hotel franchise owners and operators a customized array of packaged solutions that provide for asset management, branding, revenue optimization, and technology services through its powerful FHI system infrastructure. FHI systems are designed to deliver efficient financial and operational outcomes and support for both hotel owners as well as property guests. In addition to a strong pipeline of domestic conversion and redevelopment opportunities, FHI is actively engaged in the delivery of its services to projects throughout Southeast Asia, Africa, China, South America, and the Middle East.
Mashburn Enterprises was brought in to assist in cultivating and developing domestic and international relationships and to expand the hotel brand. Together Mashburn Enterprises and Dema Holdings will collaborate with FHI in the development of new hotel properties both domestically and internationally.
“We’re thrilled to have Mr. Mashburn partner with FairBridge Hotels International,” said Sumi Kohli, Managing Director of FairBridge Hotels International. “He is clearly a visionary. His impressive portfolio and expertise in building successful businesses will be an asset to our hotel and resort owners and operators across the globe. Together, we will help FairBridge achieve its mission of providing hassle-free, direct-brand support coupled with a high-tech, affordable and flexible reservation system, ultimately benefitting owners, operators, and property guests alike.”
Effective January 1, 2013, Mashburn was named to the FHI Board of Directors. He will also serve as the Board’s senior investment advisor beginning February 4, 2013.
