The newest addition to the dining scene around Heathrow & Uxbridge is The Oceanic, a stand-alone slice of Americana now awaiting guests at the multi-award winning Radisson Blu Edwardian, Heathrow hotel. Relaxed, yet stylish, The Oceanic dramatically extends the culinary choice for anyone working, visiting, or living in the area.
This Art Deco-style restaurant and bar - named after the first airport terminal to bring American visitors to the UK (now Heathrow T3) – takes you on a gastronomic tour of downtown New York and vibrant Miami; it just happens to be at Heathrow.
Upon entering the restaurant your eyes are immediately drawn to the sweeping curve of the central, circular bar. A breathtakingly delicate glass installation reminiscent of sparkling water and sea anemones, hangs above the oversized marble bar which is imbedded with panels of lit white resin, creating the impression of dappled sunlight on a far-flung Ocean floor. Throughout the 200-seat restaurant, geometric metallic finishes are juxtaposed with dark rich woods and plush turquoise seating to create a vibe which can only be described as All American.
Taking its inspiration from the very best Atlantic eateries, New York bars and Miami shake-shacks, The Oceanic serves the finest Stateside flavors with a Brit-twist. Burgers, dogs, chowders, cobblers and surf & turf are all prepared using authentic recipes and the freshest British seasonal produce.
A big deal is made of the great American breakfast. Waffles with cured back bacon, peach and maple syrups and sirloin steak and eggs are served all day for those whose body-clocks might not yet have woken up. Families looking for a weekend treat can keep the kids quiet with chocolate and peanut butter and strawberry and vanilla Shakes. Adults can indulge in something a little ‘harder’ - the rum & Oreo crumble and lemon cheesecake (with Limoncello.)
For the past 200 years America has defined cocktail culture. The Oceanic tours the decades and serves cocktail classics from as early as the 1800s with the Mint Julep, via a 1900 Clover Club and a 1940s Air Mail, to a modern day Cosmo. The Californian wine list brings a welcome ray of sunshine to the greyest London day.
The Oceanic opened in July 2012 at the Radisson Blu Edwardian, Heathrow. Open 6: 30 a.m. - 11p.m. (daily.) To reserve a table call 44 (0)20 8759 6311 or visit us at www.radissonblu-edwardian.com/theoceanic.
