Lakedale Resort at Three Lakes on San Juan Island announces the selection of Karl Bruno as general manager. Lakedale Resort has recently been featured in Travel Leisure, The Today Show and on the cover of Sunset Magazine. Bruno will leverage his 30 years of professional experience in the hospitality and hotel industry to continue to enhance Lakedale Resort as a premier Northwest retreat.
Fresh off the heels of a five-year stint in Sonoma Wine Country as general manager of Kenwood Inn and Spa, Bruno will return to the Pacific Northwest as he takes the helm of this serene resort located on 82 wooded acres on picturesque San Juan Island in Washington state.
“We are thrilled to bring Karl’s undeniable expertise and passion to another one of Columbia Hospitality’s fine properties,” said John Oppenheimer, CEO of Columbia Hospitality. “We are confident his extraordinary talent, attention to detail and passion will be an asset to Lakedale, as it has been at Kenwood for many years.”
In his position at Kenwood, Bruno was responsible for every aspect of daily operations from guiding and supervising the front desk to overseeing property programs, spa operations and land maintenance. His dedication and attention to detail led the boutique inn to achieve a score of 100 percent in the service category by Condé Nast Traveler readers. Also during his tenure, The Spa at Kenwood was voted as one of the Top 100 Resort Spas in the US Mainland in the Condé Nast Traveler readers’ poll in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
In a career spanning more than 30 years, Bruno’s experience has taken him all over the country—including San Francisco as general manager with The Kimpton Group where he oversaw the opening of the group’s first restaurant, Pazzo. From 1997 to 1999 Bruno served as director of food and beverage for Holland America out of Yukon, Alaska, where he provided conceptual and design development for their restaurants.
Bruno was later drawn to the Pacific Northwest when he was hired as director of food and beverage for the opening of W Seattle in 1999, in collaboration with the Myriad Restaurant Group and Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, Inc.
